Northern Trust & NUS Partner to Revolutionize Green Finance

Northern Trust has partnered with the National University of Singapore (NUS) to lead the way in green finance innovation. This strategic three-year partnership aims to revolutionize environmental, social, and governance (ESG) finance through advanced blockchain technology and actionable solutions.

Tokenization for Transparency

A central aspect of the partnership is the tokenization of bonds, powered by Northern Trust’s Matrix Zenith platform. This move is set to bring the green credentials of bonds onto the blockchain, providing investors with greater transparency and simplified regulatory reporting. The collaboration ensures that sustainability standards are met, promoting trust and accountability in green finance.

This collaboration makes NUS the first university in Singapore to integrate blockchain technology into ESG reporting. The initiative also aims to educate and nurture the next generation of blockchain talent through NUS’s involvement in the Singapore Blockchain Innovation Programme (SBIP).

Experts Weigh in on the Partnership

Justin Chapman, Global Head of Digital Assets at Northern Trust, highlighted the significance of this partnership, stating, “By bringing green credentials on-chain, we are addressing the growing need for transparency in sustainable investments.”

Meanwhile, Yen Leng Ong, Country Executive at Northern Trust, emphasized the shared vision for sustainable investing, saying, “Together, we are unlocking new opportunities for a greener economy.”

A New Era for Sustainable Investing

With this collaboration, Northern Trust and NUS are setting a new standard for green finance, creating an ecosystem that blends innovation with sustainability. Tan Kian Woo, CFO of NUS, added, “We are excited to set a benchmark for innovation in green finance that will shape the future of sustainable investing.”
