ING announced the appointment of Daniele Tonella, who will join the company as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and a Management Board Banking member. Tonella, who succeeds Marnix van Stiphout, brings a wealth of experience in technological leadership to the role. Van Stiphout has been serving as interim CTO since November 2023, in addition to his responsibilities as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Transformation Officer.
A Leader with a Proven Track Record
Daniele Tonella’s appointment marks a crucial moment for ING as the bank continues its journey towards digital excellence. Tonella boasts over 20 years of experience in technology and financial services. His career includes notable positions such as Group Chief Information Officer and CEO of UniCredit Services at UniCredit from 2017 to 2021. His previous roles at AXA Group, Evalueserve, and Swiss Life further underscore his extensive background in technology and strategic consulting.
Tonella began his career consulting with Mercer and McKinsey & Company in Switzerland, which laid the groundwork for his expertise in industrial engineering and strategic insights. He holds a master’s degree in industrial engineering from Eidgenssische Technische Hochschule Zürich and has completed executive programs at Harvard, IMD, INSEAD, and MIT Sloan.
